OBN Meeting #3 Minutes

Save the Date:

WOBN: 60 Years, On the Air, On Campus
October 18, 2008 6:00 p.m.
Old Bag of Nails
State Street, Westerville, Ohio



I. Catering

-Old Bag of Nails has to cater this one. We are looking at having heavy appetizers and a cash bar. The Otterbein Alumni office will be taking care of negotiating prices. Next meeting we will be looking at the menu and choosing what will be served.

2. Admission

-The prices will be $12 if you register before the event and $15 at the door. There is a $5.00 flat rate for students with their Otterbein ID. If you register before the event, you will also receive a surprise gift to commemorate the occasion. Old Bag of Nails will provide wristbands to show who is able to drink. We will also have a person at the door checking IDs. The alumni office will provide name tags to show who has paid to attend the event.

3. Alcohol

- Cash bar. Ids will be checked at the door and wristbands will be given at the door.

4. Aircheck CD

-We are soliciting alumni for cassettes and/or CDs of their on-air work at WOBN. Please send them to Tricia Mays, 5827 Tuttles Grove Blvd., Dublin, OH 43016. On-air work can include promos, PSAs, airshifts and projects. We're looking for anything from :15 seconds to :60 seconds. Please send a self addressed stamped envelope to help us keep postage costs low. This CD will be onsale at the event for one or two dollars with proceeds going to WOBN. Students will be in charge of making the CDs. I will contact the advisor and professors for the program to see if it's possible that students will get credit for this to provide incentive. The last track on the CD will be the future of WOBN!

5. T-Shirts

-We are working on getting T-shirts to sell before, during and after this event. Tricia will contact JC Manney on Otterbein Ave., while Bonnie will contact the Jacketman to comparison shop. We would like to keep the price of the T-shirts at or around $10. An idea for the T-shirt will be WOBN/WOBC logos from the past on the back and the logo that we come up with for the event up front. Would like to do some T-shirts pre-sale to help raise some money.

6. Invites

-Bonnie will have proofs of the invites at the next meeting. We will have the usual info for the event, how to pre-register, T-shirt sales info, soliciting for CDs and Photos.

7. Photos

-We will solicit for photos of WOBN's past from alumni and such. These will be displayed on a slideshow during the event. Photos can be sent to the same address as the airchecks or e-mailed to triciamays@columbus.rr.com.

8. Awards

-Another item we will solicit will be award nominations. Tricia will find out what the Grissinger award was and ask people for other award ideas. Three awards will be given out during the event.

9. Program

-A rough draft of the evening's program will be presented at the next meeting.

10. Decor/Slogan

- Slogan: WOBN: 60 Years, On the Air, On Campus
- Logo will be drafted by the college's graphics department
- Tricia is meeting with Steve from Aurora Exhibits to discuss decor
- Bonnie will talk with Steven Grench regarding former logos, articles and such
- Leanne will find out about possible old OBN articles in the Tan and Cardinal


5. DJ
- WOBN will DJ
- Possibly going over playlist next meeting.

6. Homecoming Parade

- Possibly have distinguished broadcasting alumni in a car in the parade
- Other alumni welcome to participate in the Doo-Dah portion with the Central Ohio Alumni group

Next OBN meeting and we need your help

Hello,
We have another Otterbein Broadcasting Network meeting coming up. The meeting is Wednesday July 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the New Comm house. We are planning an exciting party for WOBN's 60th Anniversary!

We need lots of volunteers and help.

Also, I need any pictures and/or airchecks from your old WOBN days. We are preparing a cd of old airchecks to distribute at the event. Also, we need pictures to decorate the walls. And, if you had any favorite stories or sayings from your days with WOBN, please let me know as they will be incorporated in the reunion!!!

Reminder: June 24th Meeting

Here's the info:

Our next meeting will be on June 24th (Tuesday) 6:30 p.m. in the new Communications Building (on Collegeview Avenue off State Street, just down the street from AmeriCheer on the right hand side). It will be in room C-111 the first classroom inside the front door on the Comm side. If you come in the front door, turn to your right, go through the “fire doors” and C-111 is the first room on your left.

Let me know, if you can, if you plan on coming.

First Otterbein Broadcasting Alumn Meeting

Hello Fellow Otterbein Broadcasting Alumni and friends. Welcome to the new blogspot for the group where you will find all information and updates for the group. I will keep updating information on Myspace (www.myspace.com/otterbeinbroadcastingalum), via e-mail and on Facebook (group coming soon).

Let's start with the goings on at our first meeting. Basically we talked about what we are going to do homecoming weekend in the fall. We came up with some good ideas, but we do need your help with any ideas you may have.

Here is what we are thinking:

Friday night October 17 we want to have a reception to honor WOBN's 60 years!

Saturday, after the football game, we have a cookout at the new Communications Building along with sort of an open house.

We are also thinking, that weekend during the fall marathon, allowing Alumni to be on the air on WOBN. I think we tried this while I was in school but I don't remember if it went over well or not.

Here's the deal..we have $500.00 to spend on this, so any money saving tips or ways to get donations will be much appreciated.
